Behaviour for learning

At The Bridge Academy we want to maintain a safe, inclusive, co-operative and successful school where all students and staff can learn and teach in a positive and supportive environment. We want to build and maintain positive relationships between all members of the school community. High standards of behaviour are an essential part of what is expected of all students.

Students will be motivated to learn with the support of teachers and a curriculum that inspires them. Staff will get to know pupils well and plan lessons which take account of different abilities, interests and learning styles. This is an important factor in avoiding disruptive behaviour.

To ensure that young people are given the best possible education, whatever their background or ability, respect and consideration for others is very important.

Bullying

Anti-bullying

Bullying is deliberately hurtful behaviour, repeated over a period of time. Bullying results in pain and distress to the victim. We will encourage students to tell us about incidents that happen inside and outside the Academy and take steps to address the situation so that it is tackled promptly.

Bullying can be:

Emotional Being unfriendly, excluding, tormenting
(e.g. hiding books, threatening gestures)
Physical Pushing, kicking, hitting, punching or any use of violence
Racist Racial taunts, graffiti, gestures
Sexual Unwanted physical contact or sexually abusive comments
Homophobic Because of, or focussing on the issue of sexuality
Verbal Name-calling, sarcasm, spreading rumours, teasing
Cyber All areas of internet, such as email and internet chat room misuse, mobile threats by text messaging and calls, misuse of associated technology, i.e. camera and video facilities
