Fundraising Dinner 18th October 2012
On Thursday 18th October, the UBS Group Technology Chief Information Officer, Ms Michele Trogni and her team hosted a fundraising dinner at Bridge Academy. Distinguished guests included Mr Carsten Kengeter, Co- CEO of UBS and a number of the firm’s important vendors. We are delighted to tell you that 1/2 million pound was raised. Mr Foster and the Senior Leadership Team are absolutely overwhelmed by the generosity of UBS. At the dinner reception our students demonstrated their mathematical skills to guests by ‘Maths Busking’. Following a moving speech by our Chair of Governors Ms Francesca Barnes, there were standing ovations for our student musicians who shared their talents in Voice, Piano, Bass and Clarinet.
The funds raised will help us to realise our ambition to transform technology at Bridge. This includes:
- Redesigning our ICT curriculum
- Introducing new learning technology
- Developing activities and resources that promote IT skills and understanding in feeder primary schools and amongst other members of the wider community
- Developing new technology (including software and hardware) and professional assistance in supporting the Music specialism
- Improving our ICT infrastructure
UBS group technology department have been working with us for some time to improve technology at Bridge. They have already introduced, Apps for Good, Computer Club for Girls and E- Skills. These are all great initiatives which better develop our students skills and abilities in technology.
Mr Hardie (Governor at Bridge) wrote an email of thanks to colleagues after the event. We would like to share part of this with you, as we feel it encapsulates our thoughts about the support UBS have provided to date regarding ICT:
Every part of the school's life will benefit, and we can work with our feeder primaries, where we have only just started to exert real influence, as well as adult learners in the community.

We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to Carsten Kengeter, Michele Trogni , Lionel Hill and the Group Technology Team for their on-going support and commitment to our work here at Bridge. Well done and thanks also to student Maths Buskers : Brandon - Senga - Joe - Daniyar - Che - Esther - Rebekah and student musicians Alexander, Sara , Praise, Benjamin and Ricco and finally to all the Bridge Staff involved in making the event a success. We will be giving regular updates on the development of ICT at Bridge Academy in up and coming issues of the Newsletter.

Sixth Form Information:
Sixth Form Taster Day 2011

On Saturday the 10 December we held Bridge Academy’s first 6th Form Taster Day. This was an excellent day, whereby our Year 11 pupils were accompanied by Year 11 pupils from a local school who were interested in finding out about what A Level and BTEC courses Bridge will be offering in September 2012.
As well as sampling a range of lessons, pupils also had an assembly with Louise Sugden who represents Great Britain on the Women’s Paralympic Basketball team. Louise spoke to pupils about how she has demonstrated courage and aspiration and been successful in her career.
