Intervention & Support

SUPPORT, CARE AND GUIDANCE

At The Bridge Academy we offer a safe and secure learning environment and are committed to offering the best quality support, guidance and care to our students.

A SAFE PLACE TO LEARN

The Academy strikes the right balance between being welcoming and ensuring the safety of students and staff.

Swipe cards are needed to gain access to the building, purchase food and drink from the canteen, and borrow books from the library. Each student will be in possession of one of these cards, and these can be ‘topped up’ using the internet via our website.

The Academy site has 24-hour security and a system of recording and welcoming visitors. We reserve the right to screen students to make sure they are not bringing anything into school which could harm others.

PASTORAL SUPPORT

All students will receive small group tutor sessions every week.

These will focus on successes and achievements, and any concerns or difficulties.

Sixth Form students will also have the support from our professional in-house counsellor.

We encourage you to contact your child’s tutor in the first instance, if you have any concerns or questions.

INTERVENTION:

Intervention is a method of supporting students to ensure they reach their academic targets.

A core programme of intervention will run across the year to support the development of core independent learning, literacy and numeracy skills. This will include, drop in support sessions within the Sixth Form Study Space, essay writing courses, a ‘Bridge the Gap’ course, and small group numeracy/literacy sessions.

Furthermore, students will be assessed regularly and their progress towards their targets in all subjects will be constantly tracked. Every half term all subject leaders will review all students’ assessment grades in their subjects and provide intervention strategies to support any student who requires additional help in reaching their target grades. Interventions will be varied in nature and tailored to the needs of the student. Parents/carers will be informed if their child is selected for any of the intervention programmes outside of the normal curriculum offer. Additional intervention is compulsory for students who have been selected and failure to attend will be considered as failure to attend a timetabled lesson.
