Bridge Academy

Parent Governor OPPORTUNITY

Dear Parent / Carer,

We currently have a vacancy for a Parent Governor at The Bridge Academy and would invite applications from interested parents or carers.

The Bridge Academy has a Governing Body, which includes a number of categories including Parent Governors.  All academies have a Parent Governor who is elected to serve for four years, though they may resign at any time.  Currently we have one Parent Governor, with a vacancy for one more.

Together with the Principal, the Governing Body has overall responsibility for the strategic direction of the Academy.  Governors are involved in holding the Principal to account, ratifying policies, allocating the budget and the appointment of senior staff.  No special qualifications are needed and the most important thing is to have a keen interest in the Academy and be prepared to play an active part of the Governing Body work.
In order to support Governors in their work, the Academy provides full training at no charge to the individual.

The full Governing Body normally meets two times a term at 5:00 pm on Thursdays and in addition there are two Committee meetings per term, normally during the day (depending on which Committees you agree to sit on).

If you would like to stand for election, or to nominate someone else, please complete and submit the Nomination Form to the school office.  Each person nominated must be proposed and seconded by parents / carers who have a child at the Academy.  Anyone standing for election is invited to provide, with his / her Nomination, a short personal statement (maximum 100 words).  The statement should include biographical information, your reasons for wanting to be a Parent Governor and the contribution you believe you can make to the Governing Body.

If there are more nominations than vacancies an election will be held and copies of the personal statements will be sent to all parents / carers.  Two weeks will be allowed for the return of Ballot papers.  Each parent will have one vote, no matter how many children he or she has at the Academy.

The Bridge Academy is committed to safeguarding children and all appointments will be subject to receipt of a satisfactory Enhanced DBS Check and references.

If you would like further information or an informal discussion about being a Governor, please contact Mr Ken Robb, Finance & Resources Director at ken.robb@bridgeacademy.hackney.sch.uk.

Yours faithfully,

Mr C Brown
